do the laptops have minimum specifications?
Chiara and ISF Team of Bari Saturday met Prof. Claudio Arbib in Abruzzo, hereinafter their report. Again I confirm importance of any possible laptop donor that could ship machines to Prof. Arbib (here explained why). I remain at disposal for any info/action useful to that. WKR, Aldo (ISF volunteer)

The meeting is held at Baresciano, a small village close to the earthquake-hit Ocre but some less than other towns in the area.
Have lunch together. Claudio tells us about the earthquake, of what it means for those living in Abruzzo, those who work there, the different reactions of everyone who is committed and seeks to restart and those who still upset you still can’t see at their job/study place.
Claudio is the director of the department of Computer Science dell’Aquila, he used to question two weeks before the boys who lost their lives during the earthquake, he has described his sensations and feelings.
But he feels inside the need to start over and rebuild. L’Aquila is a university city, or at least it was, with a good university attended by students coming from Abruzzo, Lazio, Molise. The faculty has restarted, despite the difficulties, lessons and tests in a new temporary quarter The question of prof. Arbib is: there will be new members? His objective is the reconstruction. Asked us to think and have ideas on this. What the prof. came to
mind was the possibility of having incentives. Taxes due the state will not be paid for 3 years, this could encourage students to enroll. We proposed to sponsor an initiative for
the reconstruction of the type: ISF gives each member the option of a notebook computer dell’Aquila. I do not know if an idea is feasible, the data tell about more or less a 100 new members a year (although at least next September will be significantly less). We said that we would have reported his request and that we pledge ourselves to even think about other possibilities. He also thought of a scholarship.
Continuiamo a cercare senza scoraggiarci. Buona settimana
Hello Aldo,
Your reference came to me from Paul Rosner. I used to work for IBM and Paul was one of my business contact at General Motors. I am working on a humanitarian technology challenge project to bring 100 solar powered laptops to an elementary school in Sichuan China. The region experienced traumatic earth quake in 2008.
Pls. accept my “connection” invitation and I would be happy to share with you more the project background, scope and other details. Thanks and best regards,
Liang Xi Downey
Caro Aldo,
Attendo quindi vostre notizie, a risentirci presto
