NAME OF THE PROJECT

Bambini al PC – Hospital of Brescia

THE PROJECT :

The project called “Children on a PC” was launched in the paediatric ward of the hospital of Brescia, where small patients often have to spend a long time far from the their towns. Thanks to the help of ABE (Associazione Bambino Emopatico), an association for children with blood diseases) a network of 28 PCs, equipped with Internet connection and software tools for communication, such as Skype, and for playing was installed in the ward. The PCs were donated to Informatici Senza Frontiere by Fujitsu Siemens, and this contribution, together with the donations of Zurich Assicurazioni and HilLight, has been fundamental.

Thanks to the implementation of a wifi network the small patients and the medical staff can be connected to the world, and they can play and talk to their families and friends. We’ll shortly discuss about the possibility of implementing some e-learning programs to enable children to keep in touch with their teachers and schools.

The feedback from this project was very good and another similar project was launched in Ospedale Burlo Garofalo in Trieste.

A few comments made from some children and their parents to the staff who delivered and installed the PCs:

“I’m the mother of a 7–month–old baby girl from Tunis and I can talk with my relatives and listen to the music of my country with Skype. Thank you!”

“I’m the mother of a one–year–old baby boy and I come from Ukraine. Now I can talk to my husband with Skype and I feel less lonely. Thank you!”

“I can play and draw with the PC. It’s good!” Martino, 7– year– old

“I can work with some teachers who are in the ward. For example there is a music teacher who helps me recognizing new music genres. Then I can use internet to discover many new things.” Sara, 12– year– old
