ISF role: Lead in collaboration with Department of General Psychology (DPG), University of Padua
It is an ISF project in collaboration with the Department of General Psychology (DPG) of the University of Padua, dedicated to the over 65s.
ISTAT data from June 2018 say that only 10.4% of those born between 1926 and 1945 are able to use the Internet and the services offered by the network.
The lack of basic digital culture is a worrying factor of social exclusion: it prevents the use of fundamental social rights such as direct dialogue with the public administration (PA), the use of public services and the possibility of communicating easily and socializing.
It is also true that too often the elderly population is resistant to technological innovation having absorbed the stereotype according to which the third age means inexorable decadence.
DIGITAL AMBASSADORS has precisely this purpose: to reduce the digital divide. How? By providing older people in the first place with the motivation to change so to accept technology as opportunities and skills. Exploiting to the fullest such opportunities and skills they may obtain the many practical benefits that this brings in everyday life.
There is much more, namely the enhancement of the spontaneous attitude of the elderly to the storytelling and to the sharing of their memories through the introduction of DIGITAL STORYTELLING courses.
Finally, the project aims to include the elderly who want it in subsequent digital training actions. Acting as true DIGITAL AMBASSADORS, they can support digital training that ISF offers to other elderly people, to foreigners, to people with difficulties or disabilities.
The courses (6 on the use of the PC, 6 on the use of the tablet and 6 digital storytelling laboratories) are held in Padua, Treviso, Arcade (TV), Belluno, Feltre (BL) and involve about 170 students.
The project is financed with the contribution of 20,000 euros disbursed by the Veneto Region as part of the “FINANZIAMENTO DI INIZIATIVE E PROGETTI A RILEVANZA REGIONALE PROMOSSI DA SOGGETTI INDIVIDUATI ALL’ART. 4 L.R. N. 23 DEL 8 AGOSTO 2017 “PROMOZIONE E VALORIZZAZIONE DELL’INVECCHIAMENTO ATTIVO”
